Cost of Initial Service & Maintenance

The most common questions asked by new extension clients are “What does the initial service cost?” and “What does maintenance cost?” (Modern Salon Hair+Research 2017), and rightfully so- after all, for such a pricey investment, people are going to want to know what they are signing up for.
As always, you should be prepared to thoroughly answer any and all questions they may throw at you so allow us to help:

INITIAL SERVICE COST

There are many factors to take into consideration when it comes to the initial cost. Of course, the initial service will be the priciest because the client will have to pay for the hair, as well as the application.
“Keep in mind when consulting with a client, it’s always best to ask for a deposit for the hair you will be using during the appointment.”

TAPE-IN EXTENSIONS

Tape-ins are the most requested for many of reasons- they last for 6-8 weeks, the hair can be reused up to 3 times, and usually the application can be done in less than 1 hour. Making them one of the most affordable options. That being said, the price of the entire initial service can range anywhere from $600-$800 all depending on the length of the hair, amount of packs used and the service fee. You can charge per panel- the average salon charges $30- $40 per panel (including the cost of the hair). Another option is to charge $50- $80 to apply each pack + the cost of the extensions. Prices vary depending on location and experience so always check out what other salons in your area are charging to avoid over-charging or under-charging clients. Tape-in extensions should be removed after 6-8 weeks; the cost of removal is anywhere from $60-$75 an hour.

Be sure to inform your new clientele that in order to avoid any damage to their natural hair and extensions, they must use the proper shampoo, conditioner, and brush (this goes for all of our extensions), because the cost of maintaining tape-in extensions is more than just going to the salon. When Aqua Extensions are cared for properly, they can last up to three entire applications!

CYLINDER SYSTEM

As always, how much you charge will depend on how much length or volume your client wants, and how much time it takes to install them. For length, they’re going to need about 5-6 bundles (125 strands), and for volume 1-2 bundles (about 50 strands). Generally speaking, you can charge around $100 to install each bundle, in addition to the initial cost of the hair and cylinders you are using. When only applying a few strands, you can charge anywhere from $7-$15 per strand.
Cylinder Extensions last up to 6 weeks, and can be reused 3-4 times. When re-adjusting a clients’ extensions, charge an hourly fee of $80 to $120. How much you charge depends on location and level of expertise; the faster you are, the more you can charge.

KERATIN FUSION

Due to Keratin Fusion Extensions being the most long lasting, and time-consuming hair system to apply (they can take a few hours to install and remove) they tend to be the most expensive. The average price can range anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 for a full head, and $500-$1,500 for a half head (including the cost of the hair). How much you charge should depend on what other salons around you are charging, and your experience with Fusions. Some salons price them by strand, starting from $8 to $15 (includes cost of hair), and others might add an hourly rate. Since the removal process is so time-consuming, most salons will charge an hourly rate of about $75-$120. Be sure to stress to your clientele that if they take care of their extensions, the removal will be a lot shorter and less damaging to their natural hair. Unlike our other extensions, Keratin Fusion Extensions cannot be reused.
