How To Prep Hair Properly

Prepping hair properly is crucial for extensions to last their longest without any slippage. This is true especially during a move-up session where glide remover was used. Prepping ensures the hair is free of oils and tangles to prevent any discomfort or damage to the natural hair.

Prepping Hair For Extensions

Prep ShampooShampoo the clients' hair twice or three times before the hair extension application using the Aqua Prep Shampoo. Ensure a thorough shampoo is performed to remove any excess oils, hair products and/or buildup from the hair and scalp. The cleaner the clients' hair is, the better your application will be. After shampooing, rinse the hair with cool water to close the cuticle and allow for easy combing.

DO NOT USE conditioners or heat protectants before application. Oils and silicones from conditioner and other products prevent secure bonding during the application and may cause slippage. Make sure that your tools, brushes, combs, hands and workstation are free of hair products. Comb or brush the client’s hair well and dry completely on a medium heat setting. It’s essential that the clients' hair be 100% dry before the application.
We recommend flat ironing the hair straight at the root to make the application easier.
Quick Tip: If you've already washed and prepped the hair, and notice leftover residue from the previous application, use the Aqua Express Remover. This will remove the residue without affecting the outcome of the application and can be used on damp hair or dry hair. Since express remover is alcohol based, it will disappear from the hair once dry.
